Brief Summary of Sightings: Round object, greenish-white, changing to a reddish-orange color. Size of quarter at arm's length. Pieces peeling off continued to glow. No sound heard. When pieces broke, object dropped suddenly, at first traveling W-E, then appeared to turn N or S and travel original portion then exploded. When observed, aircraft at 20,000 ft sighted additional level at 89° port. Disappeared going down, partly down, 9° port.
Comments: Large number of people reported objects. Witnesses ranged from Washington to as far as about 50 miles S of Portland, Oregon. Objects observed by all witnesses were not one and the same although they had characteristics identical to objects which characteristics indicated that objects were part of a meteor shower. The earth is passing through several meteor showers this time of year; the two most prominent this time of the month; Pegasids III and Pegas.
