X. BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING [ILLEGIBLE] silver object, circular or disc shaped. Appeared to shimmer. Size of a quarter at arm's length. Appeared in SW and disappeared in West. Observed at est 20,000 just over San Jacinto Mts. Just prior to disappear ance object veered at high speed to West. Object appeared to be riding a thermal. Was noted to shimmer or waver. Sighting with binoculars from Desert area with object over mountains.
XI. COMMENTS An attempt was made to contact the observer with negative results. There appears to be no information that the object was other than a balloon.
