PROJECT 10073 RECORD CARD

DATE: 4 May 61 LOCATION: 100 NM NW WAKE IS TYPE OF OBSERVATION: Ground-Visual DATE-TIME GROUP: Local 2315 GMT 041152 SOURCE: Military PHOTOS: Yes No [ILLEGIBLE] LENGTH OF OBSERVATION: 7-8 min NUMBER OF OBJECTS: 1 COURSE: straight path

CONCLUSIONS: Was Balloon [HW:] Possibly Balloon [HW:] Was Aircraft [HW:] Possibly Aircraft [HW:] Was Astronomical [HW:] Probable Astronomical [HW:] Other SATELLITE [STAMP:]

BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING: Size of star in belt of Orion. Color white, with same magnitude as star. Noticed it as a group of stars on a 40° angle above horizon and was identified by its movement. Sighted 40° above horizon to line of flight. Remained in straight and level flight and disappeared from point of view due to vision limitations imposed by cockpit configuration. Position of a/c -195°N 16430E, 100 miles NW of Wake Island on a heading of 263° T.

COMMENTS: A check was made with Space Track to determine if objt could have been satellite, with negative results. Objt's apparent movement was too fast for a satellite and too slow for meteor showers gave elev of objt, but not its, precluding valid conclusion as to nature of objt. [ILLEGIBLE] SATELLITE BY GW IN OUTER REAORT.

FORM LABELS AND VALUES: ATIC FORM 329 (REV SEP '52)
