1. DATE 10 Dec 60
2. LOCATION Lynbrook, Long Island, New York
3. DATE-TIME GROUP Local: 1730 GMT: [ILLEGIBLE]233Z
4. TYPE OF OBSERVATION ☐ Ground-Visual ☐ Ground-Radar ☐ Air-Visual ☐ Air-Intercept Radar
5. PHOTOS ☐ Yes ☐ No
6. SOURCE Civilian
7. LENGTH OF OBSERVATION 1 min
8. NUMBER OF OBJECTS: one
9. COURSE: stationary
10. BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING: Looked like a moon, full and the same color - a newly risen harvest moon. Faded out and reappeared once. Seemed to grow dimmer and dimmer as it faded out. Then when it reappeared it grew larger and larger until it was the size of the moon, then it grew progressively smaller until it disappeared.
11. COMMENTS: Size of the object was reported to be that of the moon. It is possible that there was a low hanging cloud which was reflecting lights from the ground. There was no other report of anything unusual from this area, and certainly if there had been anything unusual in this area it would have been seen by many people, especially during the early evening hours. The alternate appearance and disappearance of the object was probably due to the cloud slowly moving to the E with the usually prevailing westerly winds.
