10. BRIEF SUMMARY OF SIGHTING Two objects both the size & shape of parachutes, reported in the West (angle of elevation unknown), estimated altitude of 40,000 feet. Color of a white magnesium flares - changed to red at disappearance. Objects appeared to be descending.

COMMENTS Received by AF Form 112, A check brought to HQ w/ADC WX Service revealed that four balloons out of Vernalis, Calif., were in the Montana area, location unknown due to failure of telemetering equipment. It is known that these balloons had a pressure altitude of 40,000 ft; it is the opinion of this unit that this sighting was possibly caused by two of these balloons.
